ABB Manual Motor Starter Model

Manual motor starters
A complete motor protection concept
Manual motor starters, also known as motor protection circuit breakers (MPCBs) or manual motor protectors (MMPs), are electromechanical protection devices for the main circuit. They are mainly used to switch motors ON/OFF manually and to provide fuseless protection against short-circuit, overload and phase failures. Fuseless protection saves costs, space and ensures a quick reaction under short-circuit condition by switching the motor off within milliseconds. Starter combinations are setup together with contactors and are available with screw or Push-in Spring terminals.

Protective function
Its protection function is designed to provide selective short circuit and ground fault protection for rotating machines. Unlike most other power system components, rotating machines also need to provide protection against abnormal operating conditions such as overcurrent, unbalanced loads, overheating, overvoltage, overexcitation and underexcitation, underimpedance, overfrequency and low frequency, and generator turn around. In addition, it provides stall protection and cumulative start counters for motor start monitoring in motor protection.

measuring
The protective terminal can measure phase current, line voltage or phase voltage, zero sequence current, zero sequence voltage, frequency and power factor. Active and reactive power can be calculated from the measured current and voltage values. The electrical energy is calculated based on the measured power. All measured values can be displayed locally or remotely according to a certain proportion of the primary value.
automation
In addition to protection, measurement, control, condition monitoring, and general functions, the motor protection terminal also provides a wealth of PLC functions, allowing multiple automation and sequence logic functions required for substation automation to be integrated into one device. Its data communication function includes the SPA bus protocol or the LON bus protocol with higher-level equipment.

The difference:
The difference between circuit protection and motor-type protection is that the latter has a thermal relay function, the former only has overcurrent protection, and the latter has overload short circuit protection. The difference between the models is the power of the motor itself, the cross-section of the wire and cable, overcurrent protection, etc., and undercurrent protection, which is mainly the protection device for the overvoltage protection of the motor. There is not much difference between the protection function of the motor and the protection function of the circuit breaker. The matching curve of the circuit breaker's capacity is different. The characteristic curve of the two is different. To put it bluntly, the current multiples of instantaneous tripping are different. Motors generally choose D type 10 to 12 times to trip, and other types C generally seem to be 8 to 10 times. Trip NDM2-63C50 NDM2-63D50 The latter is used for motors. The latter comes with a thermal relay function, the former only has overcurrent protection, and the latter has overload and overcurrent protection.

Machine protection is a comprehensive protection for the motor, that is, when the motor appears overload, phase loss, stall, short circuit, overvoltage, undervoltage, leakage, three-phase imbalance, overheating, bearing wear, eccentricity of the stator and rotor, it will give an alarm or protection. ; The device that provides protection for the motor is a motor protector, including thermal relays, electronic protectors and intelligent protectors. At present, intelligent protective devices are generally used for large and important motors.
Circuit breakers can be used to distribute electrical energy, start asynchronous motors infrequently, and protect power lines and motors. They can automatically cut off the circuit when they experience serious overload or short-circuit and under-voltage faults. Their functions are equivalent to fuse switches. In combination with over-temperature and under-temperature relays. In addition, it is generally not necessary to change parts after breaking the fault current. At present, it has been widely used.
Power generation is an extremely important link in the generation, transmission, and use of electricity. The power distribution system includes transformers and various high- and low-voltage electrical equipment. Low-voltage circuit breakers are a large-scale and widely-used electrical appliance.
Refers to a switching device capable of closing, carrying, and breaking the current under normal circuit conditions and being able to close, carry and break the current under abnormal circuit conditions within a specified time. Circuit breakers are divided into high-voltage circuit breakers and low-voltage circuit breakers according to their scope of use. The division of high-voltage and low-voltage boundaries is relatively vague. Generally, more than 3kV is called high-voltage electrical appliances.

Working principle The classic motor star-delta start method is mainly protected by a thermal relay. If a thermal relay is used to protect a large motor, it will cause the breakpoint of the large wires (that is, the screw wiring into and out of the thermal relay), which is prone to heating points and failure points.
If you do not use fuses and thermal relays, you can use a comprehensive motor protector. Because the integrated motor protector is a through-type, you can reduce the breakpoints of large wires, thereby reducing heating points and failure points, and the price is cheaper than both. .
When using a comprehensive motor protector, you must pay attention to the wiring of the control circuit. To ensure normal operation.
Some motor integrated protectors indicate: "Must be connected to the load to work normally, and it will be in phase loss when not connected to the load. Therefore, the integrated protector refuses to close and the motor will not start." This shows that inside the integrated motor protector, the current transformer is used to detect the presence or absence of three-phase current to determine the lack of phase. When power is off and there is no load. This closing point is actually an opening point, so it cannot be closed.
The circuit is mainly composed of a dual time base IC chip NE556 and a voltage and current sampling link to form a comparison circuit, a multi-resonance circuit, and a monostable circuit.

The integrated motor protector uses advanced microcomputer technology and high-performance integrated chips. The whole machine is powerful and superior in performance. High test accuracy, good linearity, high resolution, strong anti-interference ability of the whole machine, and reliable protection action. The three-phase current value, voltage value and various fault codes are displayed on the LED and LCD, which is intuitive and clear. Good stability, no maintenance required for long-term work.
