This research is purposed to establish a simple method for operating the three phase induction motors of delta connection standard with single-phase power by using capacitor circuit to the motor. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of the Electrical Engineering of Institut Teknologi Padang. The object used in this research was the 3-phase induction motor of 1.5 HP, 380/220V, Y/, 2.75/4.74A, 4 poles, 50 Hz, 1400 RPM. The results showed that the motor could work well on single phase power load by up to 66% of the 3-phase rating. The motor could operated on power factor close to unity, with lower current harmonic distortion and efficiency.

A comparative study of equal, triangular, stepped, sinusoidal, and inverted sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (PWM) schemes on source and load performances of a three-phase AC-DC GTO thyristor converter-fed DC motor is presented. The two-quadrant GTO thyristor converter is studied in detail using an equal PWM (EPWM) scheme. A symmetrical gate pulse pattern that reduces the number of switchings and allows switching GTOs an equal number of times in each supply cycle is reported. Smooth and continuous transition is obtained between rectification and inversion with a single GTO converter. The proposed converter was designed, constructed, and tested using a 3 hp laboratory-sized separately excited DC motor. The experimental results are shown to be in good agreement with the theory.

Scheda was a person who published a method for operating the 3-phase induction motor on singlephase supply in 1985. The method installs a capacitor circuit on the terminal of the motor. So the motor operated like a single phase induction motor. This method only creates some formulas for calculating the capacitor that suitable for operating the 3-phase induction motor on single phase supply. The formulas could not be used for predicting characteristics of the motor in variation speed conditions. Therefore, this research is proposed to create a steady-state equivalent circuit includes its formulas for analyzing the motor on varying speed conditions, especially for power output and efficiency of the motor. The 3-phase induction motor used in this research was the motor of 1.5 HP, 380/220V, Y/, 2.75/4.7A, 4 poles, 50Hz, 1400 RPM. For validating the formulas, the motor also tested in a laboratory. The results showed that the formulas and equivalent circuit was given had good accuracy when they compared with the results of experiments in the laboratory.

A single phase induction motor having a main field winding and an auxiliary field winding provided with a phase advancing capacitor is controlled by a control unit having a timer unit and a by-pass switch for by passing the phase advancing capacitor. The main field winding is provided with a main switch operable by a relay controlled by the timer. The control unit also has a clutch detecting unit which detects the engagement and disengagement of the clutch adapted to couple the motor with a load such as a sewing machine. The timer is so set to activate the relay after a predetermined time period when the clutch is disengaged to relieve the motor of its load, whereby the relay causes the main switch to open, and the by-pass switch to close, such that the motor is operated solely on the auxiliary field winding when no load is applied, so as to save the power consumption at an idling operation.

We study radiative and nonradiative recombination at individual dislocations in GaN by cathodoluminescence performed in a transmission electron microscope. Trimex Sands Pvt Limited (TSPL), a mineral wing of Trimex Group is operating a heavy mineral sands mine based on Srikurmam Deposit in the district of Srikakulam in the state of Andhra Pradesh. At TSPL, froth flotation is employed to separate Sillimanite from quartz and the performance of the flotation circuit is not at par with that of the design. Small rated self-excited induction generators (SEIG) are most suitable for Pico hydro power generation systems in remote mountainous regions for feeding three-phase and single-phase domestic load using 3-phase 4-wire system. This paper also presents the experimental evaluation of star-delta and zigzag transformer configurations for harmonic mitigation in 3-phase SEIG system while emulating actual load of isolated mountainous regions in India. The experimental set-up uses a 3HP, 3-phase, 4-pole induction machine coupled with a similar rating DC shunt motor, a multipurpose 3-phase transformer setup for emulation of different configurations.

A method for estimating resistance of a DC motor for positioning read/write heads of a data storage disk is provided. The DC motor is controlled in an open-loop voltage mode through a motor controller input with a first signal for compensating positioning of the read/write heads onto the data storage disk. The first signal is generated based upon a position error signal representing a difference between a position of the read/write heads and a center of a track to be read. The method includes monitoring the first signal during a read operation of data being stored on the data storage disk, and estimating the resistance based upon spectral components of the first signal.

This research is purposed to establish a new method is good and simple to operate the 3-phase induction motor on single-phase power by using the capacitors. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of the Electrical Engineering of the Padang Institute of Technology. The object used in this research was the 3-phase induction motor that has the standard of 2 HP,380 V, Wye connection, 4 pole, 50 Hz, 1400 RPM, 3.6 A. The results of this research showed that the method could work well to control the motor to operate properly to load 85% of the 3-phase rating. In general, the motor has a better performance when operating on 1-phase power system in all load cases (low and high load). The motor could operate with power factor close to unity, higher speed and better efficiency. The motor operated with higher current harmonic distortion at low loads but lower current harmonic distortion at high loads. Therefore, it is very good to operate the motor at high load up to 85% of the 3-phase rating.
