Surge protector, also known as lightning protector, is an electronic device that provides safety protection for various electronic equipment, instruments and communication lines. When an electrical circuit or communication line suddenly generates a peak current or voltage due to external interference, the surge protector can conduct the shunt in a very short time to avoid damage to other devices in the circuit by the surge.
Surge protector, suitable for AC 50 / 60HZ, rated voltage 220V / 380V power supply system, protects against indirect lightning and direct lightning effects or other transient overvoltage surges, suitable for family houses, tertiary industry and industry Field surge protection requirements.

Siemens Surge Protection Device Models

Basic Features:
1. The protection flow is large, the residual pressure is extremely low, and the response time is fast;
2. Use the latest arc extinguishing technology to completely avoid fire;
3. Using temperature control protection circuit, built-in thermal protection;
4. With power status indicator, indicating the working state of the surge protector;
5. Strict structure, stable and reliable work.

Working principle:
Surge protection device (Surge protection Device) is an indispensable device in the lightning protection of electronic equipment. In the past, it was often called "lightning arrester" or "overvoltage protector" in English. It is abbreviated as SPD. The function of the surge protector is to The instantaneous overvoltage into the power line and signal transmission line is limited to the voltage range that the device or system can withstand, or a powerful lightning current is discharged into the ground to protect the protected device or system from damage due to impact.
The type and structure of the surge protector are different for different purposes, but it should contain at least one nonlinear voltage limiting element. The basic components used for surge protectors are: discharge gap, gas discharge tube, varistor, suppression diode and choke coil.

Use:
A surge is also called a surge. As the name implies, it is an instantaneous overvoltage that exceeds the normal operating voltage. Essentially, a surge is a violent pulse that occurs in only a few millionths of a second. Possible causes of the surge are: heavy equipment, short circuits, power switching, or large engines. And products containing surge blocking devices can effectively absorb sudden huge energy to protect the connected equipment from damage.

Effect:
Lightning discharge may occur between or inside the clouds, or between the clouds and the ground; in addition, the internal surge caused by the use of many large-capacity electrical equipment, the The impact of electrical equipment and the protection against lightning and surges have become the focus of attention.
The lightning discharge between the cloud layer and the ground is composed of one or several separate lightnings, each carrying several currents with high amplitude and short duration. A typical lightning discharge will consist of two or three lightnings, each separated by approximately one-twentieth of a second. Most lightning currents fall between 10,000 and 100,000 amperes, and their duration is generally less than 100 microseconds.
Due to the use of large-capacity equipment and frequency conversion equipment inside the power supply system, it has brought increasingly serious internal surge problems. We attribute it to the effect of transient overvoltage (TVS). There is an allowable range of power supply voltage for any electrical equipment. Sometimes even a very narrow overvoltage surge can cause damage to the power supply or all of the equipment. This is the effect of transient overvoltage (TVS) destruction. Especially for some sensitive microelectronic devices, sometimes a small surge can cause fatal damage.

Installation method:
1. SPD regular installation requirements
Surge protector is installed with 35MM standard rail
For fixed SPD, the following steps should be followed for routine installation:
1) Determine the discharge current path
2) Mark the wires of the extra voltage drop caused at the equipment terminal.
3) In order to avoid unnecessary induction circuits, the PE conductor of each device should be marked,
4) Establish an equipotential connection between the device and the SPD.
5) Multi-level SPD energy coordination
In order to limit the inductive coupling between the installed protective part and the unprotected equipment part, certain measurements are required. Mutual inductance can be reduced by the separation of the induction source and the sacrificial circuit, the choice of loop angle and the limitation of the closed loop area,
When the current-carrying component wire is part of a closed loop, the loop and induced voltage are reduced due to the wire's proximity to the circuit.
In general, it is better to separate the protected wire from the unprotected wire, and it should be separated from the ground wire. At the same time, in order to avoid transient orthogonal coupling between the power cable and the communication cable, necessary measurements should be made.
2. SPD ground wire diameter selection
Data cable: requires greater than 2.5mm2; when the length exceeds 0.5m, it requires greater than 4mm2. YD / T5098-1998.
Power line: when the cross-sectional area of phase line S≤16mm2, S is used for the ground wire; when the cross-sectional area of phase line 16mm2≤S≤35mm2, the ground wire is 16mm2; when the cross-sectional area of phase wire S≥35mm2, the ground wire requires S / 2 50054 Article 2.2.9

Siemens Surge Protection Device Models

The main parameters of the surge protector:
1. Nominal voltage Un: The rated voltage of the protected system is consistent. In the information technology system, this parameter indicates the type of protector that should be selected. It marks the effective value of the AC or DC voltage.
2. Rated voltage Uc: It can be applied to the designated end of the protector for a long time without causing the change of the protector characteristics and the maximum effective value of the voltage to activate the protection element.
3. Rated discharge current Isn: The peak value of the maximum impact current that the protector withstands when the standard lightning wave with a waveform of 8 / 20μs is applied to the protector for 10 times.
